Biodiversity
Biodiversity
Means in simple terms the range, number and type of different species living in a particular space, and this changes with with the type of location encountered.
It is important therefore that wherever possible we protect the environment that we have, by not destroying what is around us, and where possible strive to improve it.
Certain species of wild life are important to ensuring the pollination of plants and fruit, in particular butterflies and bees.

We are not advocating that you all become bee keepers, but the introduction of "bee tubes" to your garden will ensure more bees visit your garden to collect pollen. Planting flowers like Budhlea and Honeysuckle will attract more butterflies.
We have this desire for "tidy" looking gardens, but the odd piece of natural timber, left to go rotten becomes a veritable 'hotel' for insects.
Certain varieties of birds and bats can be encouraged to join you by puting the right type of bird box in a suitable place in your garden.
So with more and more space being given up for housing, most now with little or no garden it is becoming more important that we do our bit. So think what you can do around your garden, and who knows your plants and fruit could be the envy of the neighbourhood.
