Event Toolkit
The Toolkit Homepage
Canterbury City Council is committed to encouraging the use of public open space and amenity areas across the district. All across the world people join together to celebrate and express their feelings for an amazing range of reasons. These events should be special and memorable. This toolkit is intended to offer guidance to event organisers to help ensure that their events are safe and legal.
Events can range in size from a village fete to a large-scale arena event attracting thousands of spectators. Whatever the size of your event the basic principle contained in this toolkit remains the same, and should underpin your planning however complex the end result, namely:
'To provide a safe environment for the public, participants, volunteers, contractors, sub-contractors and staff to enjoy the event with minimal impact on land, residents and public thoroughfares in the surrounding area.'
As the event organiser you have a legal responsibility to ensure that your event takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the above statement becomes a reality. The guidance outlines basic requirements for Canterbury City Council as well as providing examples of good practice.
Given that events can vary enormously in terms of scale, content, and objectives this toolkit does not set out to provide exhaustive guidance for all types of event, and specialist advice should be sought wherever necessary.
