Frequently asked questions

How do you work out my monthly rent into a weekly figure?

The Housing Benefit regulations state how a monthly rent is converted into a weekly figure.

If your rent is monthly we multiply it by 12 to get the annual figure, divide by 365 (or 366 if you tenancy falls over a leap year) to get a daily figure and multiply that by 7 to get a weekly figure.

Example:

?480 x 12 = ?5760 / 365 = ?15.78 x 7 = ?110.47
or
?480 x 12 = ?5760 / 366 = ?15.74 x 7 = ?110.16

We do not divide the calendar monthly figure by 4 to get a weekly amount as this would mean that there were only 48 weeks in the year, not 52.
