This may affect the way your benefit is calculated.
Benefit is often calculated using an applicable amount. This is the amount (based on Government figures) that your household needs to meet basic living expenses according to the age, size and health of the household.
If you are responsible for dependant children your applicable amount will reflect this.
When you stop receiving Child Benefit for a child your applicable amount will go down as you will no longer be entitled to the personal allowance and premiums for that child.
If you are only responsible for one child you would also lose the family premium from your applicable amount.
If you are in receipt of Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance we do not calculate an applicable amount for you. If you remain entitled to Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance your benefit may not alter unless your child is then considered to be a non-dependant.
If you do not remain entitled to Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance your benefit will need to be recalculated and you should contact us to tell us of the change.
