The amount depends on the valuation band a property is in, and this depends on its value. This is calculated according to the open market value at 1 April 1991, not the current value.
There are 8 bands, A to H. The amounts payable for each band change each year, depending on how much money the city council, the county council and the police authority need, but the band your property is in remains the same unless and until the Listing Officer at the Valuation Office changes it.
