Frequently asked questions

When I join the Housing Need Register, can I choose where I live?

We try to give you as much choice as possible over where you wish to live.

The application form asks you to state what areas and villages you are prepared to accept. It also asks what type of home you want and, if it is a flat or maisonette, what floor level, you want.

You can choose as many, or as few areas and villages as you wish. You do not have to choose all the estates in a particular area.

Please remember that if you only choose a few areas, or areas which are very popular, you will have to wait longer before we can offer you a home. Regrettably, many people who apply for housing with us never get offered a home. This is because the number of homes which become empty each year is far less than the number of applications for housing we receive.

We will provide you with information, which will help you, decide what areas and villages to choose, and what chance you have of being offered a home.

You can obtain an application form and an information booklet from any one of our local offices
or you can request one from Customer Services on 01227 862142.
