Frequently asked questions

What will happen about smells, flies and rats?

If residents have got particularly smelly waste such as nappies, they are advised to 'double bag' the waste before putting it in the domestic wheeled bin.

Domestic waste should be contained within a domestic wheeled bin and therefore will not be within reach of rats and vermin.

If the recyclables put in the clear sacks have been cleaned as requested they should not attract vermin.

The lifecycle of a fly (from eggs to adult) is approximately two weeks. If food waste is contained within the sack and the lid of the bin is closed properly, this should not present a problem.

Experience of other local authorities already providing this new waste collection service suggests that this is not a problem.
