It was very expensive to introduce fortnightly collections of clear sacks and garden waste due to the costs of extra vehicles, publicity to promote the scheme and temporary staff. Overall, it was costing us more than we would normally expect to pay for waste collection.
By moving to the new waste collections, fewer vehicles will be needed to collect the district's waste. This will help the council recover some of the money we spent bringing in the clear sack scheme.
If we were to collect recyclables every week, that money would not be saved and we would still be paying a lot for our waste collection service.
The new waste collections are working well, with very few problems. They have led to a big increase in the amount of waste that is recycled and we want that to continue. Therefore we see no reason to change a winning formula.
