Community heroes to be celebrated in the Lord Mayor’s Award

Canterbury district’s unsung heroes will be recognised for their impact on the local community at the 2023 Lord Mayor’s Award.

Nominations are now open for the awards, which aim to thank those working quietly behind the scenes to benefit others. There are no age limits and nominations are welcome from all walks of life. 

Although you don’t have to live in the district to nominate, nominees must live in Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable or a village in the district. 

The deadline to put someone forward is Friday 3 November.

Entries will be judged by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Jean Butcher, and a representative from each of the political groups at the city council. The awards will be presented at a ceremony later this year.

Cllr Butcher said: “Canterbury district is full of people doing great things to help others, many of whom don’t get the recognition they deserve. 

“People like this truly make the district a better place and I look forward to reading all the wonderful nominations.

“If you know of anyone living in the district whose work you think should be celebrated, please get in touch.”
