Kent Karrier Dial-a-Bus Service for Canterbury District

Kent Karrier Dial-a-Bus Service for the Canterbury District

Kent Karrier Dial-a-Bus service for the Canterbury districtThe Kent Karrier dial-a-bus service in the Canterbury district has recently expanded, with three buses now providing transport for those who have difficulty getting out and about.

For some time the service has been over-subscribed, however, there is now extra funding from the city and county councils for a third vehicle.

The buses are fully wheelchair-accessible, taking passengers from their front door to the shops and back again.  The service is for people who are housebound or unable to use public transport because of a medical condition.  People who live in a rural area more than 500 metres from a conventional bus route are also eligible.

The scheme is free to join and all that passengers have to pay is the fare which is either £1.60 or £2.90, depending on the actual journey.  Journeys are booked at least one day in advance.  The experienced drivers give passengers any help they need.

On Mondays, Tuesday and Fridays, people living in the Whitstable and Herne Bay areas can travel to Herne Bay, Chestfield, Whitstable and Tankerton.  The new Estuary View Medical Centre, Boorman Way, Whitstable will be opening on 17 September 2009 and this will be another destination option on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

A new service on Thursdays means that people living in the Whitstable and Herne Bay areas can travel to Canterbury.

Other areas and villages across the district will also enjoy a better service giving people new options to travel to Canterbury as follows:

  • Kent Karrier Dial-a-Bus service for the Canterbury districtAreas and villages north and west of Canterbury on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Areas and villages south of Canterbury on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Areas and villages east of Canterbury on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You can view or download the Canterbury District Kent Karrier Dial-a-Bus leaflet.
