- Ancient monuments
Details of all monuments are kept in the Regeneration & Economic Development Division -Conservation section, where application forms can be obtained.
- Conservation area appraisals
The conservation section is preparing conservation area appraisals for all its conservation areas in the next 10 years.
- Grants
The City Council has a small grant scheme to encourage the repair and restoration of historic buildings in the district.

- Blue plaque scheme
The City Council launched its Blue Plaque Scheme in 2003.
- Trees
The City Council has powers to make Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) on single trees, groups or woodlands where it is thought necessary for the protection of amenity.
