About the Head of Regeneration and Economic Development Services
Ian Brown
Head of Regeneration and Economic Development Services
Ian Brown heads up the Regeneration and Economic Development Division at Canterbury City Council, a division which includes countryside management, heritage, town centre management, planning policy, the local economy, tourism and regeneration projects. Ian has worked for Canterbury City Council since 1990 and lives in Canterbury with his wife and two children.
Originally from Yorkshire, Ian studied town planning at Newcastle University where his career in local government started. Ian has also worked in Manchester, Cumbria and Lancashire before moving to Canterbury. A desire to conserve and improve the environment of the district together with delivering better quality and more diverse employment opportunities are the main challenges in his day-to-day role. Ian's desire to ensure that the council is achieving these goals lies at the heart of his interest in the project to bring a new business innovation centre to the University of Kent and more recent work on establishing a strategy for the regeneration of Herne Bay's town centre.
When not working for the city council, Ian spends much of his time with his family supporting their interests and also has a keen interest in gardening, cycling and tries to enjoy some of the fantastic range of food available in the local restaurants and pubs.
