Scores on the doors
The SOTD scheme is being suspended, and the new scheme: National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (NFHS) will be introduced later in the year (provisional launch date 1st October 2011). No star ratings have been awarded under the old scheme since the end of December 2010, and so now some of the scores are out of date.
Canterbury Council, in partnership with The Food Standards Agency, is introducing the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. The scheme helps consumers choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, cafés, takeaways, hotels and food shops.
The scheme also encourages businesses to improve hygiene standards, and the main aim is to reduce foodborne illness.
Canterbury were previously part of a similar national pilot scheme called Scores on the Doors, which was supported by Food Standards Agency.
Both the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme and the Scores on the Doors Scheme are based on the safety standards found at the last food hygiene inspection, and although the schemes are similar, there are some differences.
To give us time to change over, we are no longer displaying information relating to Scores on the Doors on our website, although you might still see some stickers or certificates displayed at premises. Please bear with us whilst we change over – it may take us a little while but we’re sure it’ll be worth it.
