Community Safety Unit

About Us

The joint Canterbury City Council and Kent Police Community Safety Unit works closely with its partners in the Safer Canterbury District Partnership to tackle crime and promote community safety.

The Unit is responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of the Safer Canterbury District Partnership's strategic plan. The priority areas are: Alcohol related crime; Anti-social behaviour; Criminal damage; Physical Environment; Preventing extremism; Substance misuse; Violent crime; Young people; Hate crime.

The Unit takes a strategic, multi-agency approach to community safety issues. Individual incidences of anti-social behaviour and other low-level crime are dealt with, in the first instance, by the Police Neighbourhood Teams. But if a particular area becomes chronically effected by anti-social behaviour or other crimes the Unit will take responsibility, with its partners, to tackle the issue. Please see the How to report Anti-Social behaviour page.
