Buy products with less packaging, for example loose fruit and vegetables.
-
Invest in rechargeable batteries and a battery recharger, to save throwing batteries away.
-
Buy items that have already been recycled - look for the 'Buy Recycled' logo.
-
Put pressure on supermarkets to provide refill services for breakfast cereals, washing liquid and powder, soft drinks and so on.
-
Invest in a home composter and take advantage of council promotions by telephoning 01227 862247. or 0844 571 4444
-
Unwanted furniture, cookers, bikes and so on can be donated to Necessary Furniture, who will collect them free of charge.
-
If you have children in nappies, consider using real nappies rather than disposables. It'll help save the environment and your pocket! Contact the recycling team on 01227 862211
-
Say No to Unwanted Bags (SNUB), don't accept carrier bags in shops when you already have enough room in the bags you have. You could even try to remember taking bags with you when you go shopping or take part in supermarket reusable bag schemes.
