Open: Monday - Saturday 11.00 - 16.00 (last entry) except Good Friday and Christmas, and from June until end September on Sundays from 13.30 -16.00 (last entry)

Admission charges from 1 April 2010 until 31 March 2011- Adults £3.60, children (5 - 18) £2.30.  Family ticket £9.20.  Group discounts available.


Little Ruperts

Pre-school activity for 2-5 year olds with an accompanying adult.

2nd Thursday each month 10 to 11am

12 August 2010 - Teddy Bears' Picnic


Story telling, singing and art activities for the under 5s with Rupert, Bagpuss and friends. Materials and refreshments provided. £2 per child - accompanying adult free.

The Elizabethans at Home

Family activity day
Saturday 17 July 11am to 4pm

Discover what home life was like for rich and poor in Elizabethan Canterbury.  Investigate objects, try on costume, see the Elizabethan wall painting and mix Tudor paint recipes to create your own piece of painted plaster.

Drop in event for ages two to adult.  Usual museum admission prices apply, plus £1 materials charge for making the painted plaster.

Canterbury's Elizabethan Painted Plaster

Meet the Conservator and enjoy a glass of wine and a piece of cherry cake!
Monday 19 July 2pm to 3.30pm

Investigate the Museum of Canterbury’s newly conserved Elizabethan wall painting with conservator Maureen Lovering. Discover how the painting was made, the Kentish flowers and fruits that make up the design, and the recent conservation process. See other museum objects conserved by Maureen including 17th century heart-shaped brickwork and Epstein’s bust of Joseph Conrad. Then enjoy a glass of wine or fruit juice and a slice of cherry cake in the museum garden or Victorian parlour if wet.

The Vikings and Noggin the Nog!

Family activity day
Wednesday 11 August 11am to 4pm

Discover what happened when the Vikings pillaged Canterbury.  Listen to stories, dress in costume, write your name in runes, see rare Viking artefacts, make a fun helmet or shield, and view Noggin the Nog artwork and films.

Drop in event.  Usual admission prices apply.  Ages five to adult.


Minibeasts Hunt!

Young naturalists' event
Thursday 19 August - one hour sessions between 10am and 3pm

Meet at the Museum of Canterbury.  Search for minibeasts in a fun safari around the museum and nearby Greyfriars Garden.  Find out about flowers and plants and discover some ferocious predators of the River Stour.

Advance booking required 01227 475 202.  Usual museum admission prices apply.  For ages three to adult.


 

There is a small entry charge for all visitors to some special events to cover costs. This charge includes admission to the whole museum. For all other events entry is free to city council Residents Card holders and their families. For non-card holders, usual admission prices apply.
