Waste collections: introduction
Waste collection arrangements
The waste and recyclables collection arrangements are a system where recyclables in clear sacks are collected one week, followed by landfill waste in grey-lidded wheelie bins the next week. Find out how the scheme works in brief.
The system we are using is not unusual. Many councils in Britain are already doing it and research from those shows that the amount of waste recycled increases considerably as a result.
A few residents have expressed concerns about smells, pests and vermin. Research undertaken reveals that smells are not a problem as long as sacks are securely tied and bin lids firmly closed. Fears of an increase in pests or vermin are similarly unfounded.
Any questions?
We understand that you may have questions about the system, so we have tried to answer as many of these as we can in our Frequently Asked Questions. Alternatively you can send your questions or concerns to recycling@canterbury.gov.uk
Managing our waste is the responsibility of each and every one of us - it's time to stop making excuses and start doing our bit.
