Licensing 

Licensing Act 2003

In November 2005 the new Licensing Act 2003 came into force.

The Licensing Act 2003 requires that Licensing Authorities   publish a statement of licensing policy which must be kept  under review, and in any event to fully review the policy every three years.  Following public consultation, the new Licensing Policy was approved on the 13 July 2008 and it is available to download from here.  Licensing Policy 2008

Gambling Act 2005

In September 2007, the new Gambling Act 2005 came into force. 

The Gambling Act 2005 also requires Licensing Authorities to publish  a  Gambling Policy.  This policy is available to download from here. Gambling Policy

 

In both the Licensing Act 2003 and the Gambling Act 2005 the Licensing Authorities are a department of the  CIty, District or Borough Councils.   In this  case it is Canterbury City Council.

Making objections

Once the council receives a valid application you have 28 days in which to lodge an objection. All objections must be made in writing by post, E-Mail or fax . They should be sent to:

Requesting a Review

Under the Licensing Act 2003, Interested Parties (residents or people involved in businesses in the vicinity of a premises) and Responsible Authorities (such as the police or fire authority) can ask the city council as Licensing Authority to Review a premises licence.

A Review can relate to any, some or all of the licensable activities of a premises, including selling alcohol, providing live music, late night refreshment and dancing.
