What Else The Transportation Team deals with...

The City Council’s Transportation Team look after several important functions at a local level.

In particular, we take a strategic view of parking issues across the district along with maintenance of the City Council’s car parks and lines and signs associated with parking restrictions.

We will continue to have an input into traffic and parking policies. A number of strategy documents have been drawn up including the Canterbury District Transport Action Plan, the Canterbury Parking Strategy, the Draft District Bus Strategy and the Draft District Walking and Cycling Strategy.

We have also helped to create the council's new policy on abandoned bicycles in public places.

We can tell you about existing and proposed cycle routes.

We can help with enquiries about bus shelters, street nameplates and street naming and numbering and we can advise you about the Kent Karrier Dial-a-Ride service.

Motorists in Kent are being encouraged to cut down their fuel costs and reduce congestion by registering online with Kentjourneyshare, the first public car sharing scheme in Kent.  Canterbury City Council is one of several employers who have registered with the scheme.

Plan your journey using public transport by visiting the Traveline web site.

Access Highlight Markings (white lines across driveways) are now administered by Kent Highways and you can apply for a new marking online.  If your marking is worn out and it was originally installed before September 2009 you can also  ask to have it re-marked.

Most other matters relating to roads are the responsibility of Kent County Council
