Parking Regulation Review 2007 -
Time to Have Your Say.

The Joint Transportation Board and the Council's Executive have now decided which of the changes requested during 2007 should proceed to formal public consultation. You can read about each proposal in more detail and look at a plan of each one. You can then send us your comments about any of the proposals so that councillors can consider your views before deciding whether each change should go ahead.

Like to propose a change :

If you would like us to consider changing the parking restrictions where you live, for example putting in new yellow lines or parking bays, or you would like to have some restrictions taken away, please email us or write to us, so that your proposal can be included in the next Parking Regulation Review.

The Review is a lengthy process due to the legal and consultation procedures involved. Changes proposed during 2008 will be implemented in the summer of 2009 if they are approved during the Review process.

Hanover Place, Canterbury

One of the objectives of the Canterbury Parking Strategy was to add the uncontrolled parking bays at the end of Hanover Place furthest from Roper Road to the St Stephen's resident parking zone.

Following extensive consultation to decide on the best configuration of parking bays in Hanover Place we are now consulting about the changes to the Traffic Regulation Order that this would necessitate. A plan showing the propose changes is available here.

If you wish to comment on, or object to, this proposal you should email us or write to us so that we receive your comments by 12 noon on Monday 25th August, 2008.

What the Transportation Team does...

While most matters relating to roads are now the responsibility of Kent County Council, the city council's Transportation Team look after several important functions at a local level.

In particular, we look after most parking issues on roads in the area and we maintain the lines and signs associated with parking on roads.

We will continue to have an input into traffic and parking policies. A number of strategy documents have been drawn up including the Canterbury District Transport Action Plan, the Canterbury Parking Strategy, the Draft District Bus Strategy and the Draft District Walking and Cycling Strategy.

We can help with enquiries about bus shelters, street nameplates and street naming and numbering and we can tell you about the Kent Karrier Dial-a-Ride Service.  We can tell you about existing and proposed cycle routes.  We are also a lead partner organisation of the Kent and Medway Walking Bus Group.

Motorists in Kent are being encouraged to cut down their fuel costs and reduce congestion by registering online with Kentcarshare, the first public car sharing scheme in Kent.  Canterbury City Council is one of several employers who have registered with the scheme.
