Your business rates

How we work out your business rates

We work out business rates based on the property's 'rateable value'.

This is the open market rental value on 1 April 2015, calculated by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

Your rateable value is then multiplied by a figure set each year by government. The standard multiplier is 51.2p in every pound of the rateable value before any rate relief or discounts you may get are applied.

If your business has a rateable value of below £51,000 (known as a small business) then it's 49.9p in every pound.

We'll send you a bill confirming the amount you need to pay. You can also use the GOV.UK tool to estimate your business rates.
