Dog control order on Whitstable seafront

There is currently a dog control order covering the stretch of seafront between The Street and Pier Avenue. This requires dogs to be kept on leads on the promenade in this area, as well as excluding dogs from the beach itself, between 1 May and 30 September.

The law has now changed and we have to replace our current dog control orders with Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) by October 2017. The conditions outlined above will continue to apply.

We're reviewing the current dog control orders and it has been suggested that the areas covered by the existing order could be extended. There are a number of options including:

  • Make no changes to the area currently covered by the order
  • Extend the order to cover the area from Pier Avenue up to Long Rock, in addition to the area currently covered
  • Extend the order to cover the area from Pier Avenue up to and including the jetty of Tankerton Sailing Club, in addition to the area currently covered
