Parliamentary Election 12 December 2019

A Parliamentary Election has been called for Thursday 12 December 2019. 

Poll cards will be sent to all eligible electors advising them of their polling station. The polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 12 December 2019.

Registering to Vote

To be able to vote in this election you must be registered to vote. If you are not already registered you must register to vote before midnight on 26 November 2019. You can vote in person or you can vote by post or proxy.

Postal Votes

If you wish to apply for a postal vote you must do so by 5pm on 26 November 2019.

Postal votes for new applicants will be sent out around the 3 December. If you have had a postal vote before, your postal vote will be sent out earlier.  

Proxy Votes

A proxy vote is where you ask someone to vote on your behalf. 

If you wish to apply for a proxy vote you must do so by 5pm on 4 December 2019.

Canterbury Parliamentary Constituency

Canterbury City Council will be administering the election for the Canterbury Parliamentary Constituency, which includes Canterbury, Whitstable and the rural areas.

Electors who live in:

  • Herne Bay
  • Hoath 
  • Chislet
  • Westbere
  • and part of Hersden

fall in the North Thanet Constituency which will be administered by Thanet District Council.

Candidates Information

Nomination papers are available from Electoral Services, and can be returned from 11 November 2019 to 4pm on 14 November 2019. They must be returned by personal appointment between 10am and 4pm to the Electoral Services Office.  Please phone 01227 862 006 for an appointment.
