European Parliamentary election

The election for members of the European Parliament for the south east region took place on Thursday 23 May. The count takes place on Sunday 26 May and we'll publish the results as soon as they're available.

Seats are awarded using a system known as the 'd'Hondt formula'. The first seat is given to the party or candidate with the highest number of votes across the region. The rest of the seats are then awarded to the party or candidate with the most votes after the following calculation is applied each time:

Total number of votes for the party or candidate divided by the number of seats they already have plus one seat.
