Air quality and pollution
Air quality management areas
We are required to regularly review and assess air quality in Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable and the surrounding villages. We report the results to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
We also monitor levels of nitrogen dioxide. If pollution levels exceed the set target, then we'll declare it as an 'air quality management Area' (AQMA) and draw up an action plan for reducing pollution. We've produced an air quality action plan for Canterbury and Herne.
You may like to sign up to Kent Air forecast emails which tell you predicted air quality and levels of pollution.
