The Lady Mayoress
Jenny Yonge was born in Isleworth and lived in Ashford, Middlesex, throughout her schooldays, before moving to Surbiton in 1963.
She attended Staines Prep. School and then Sarum School in Walton-upon-Thames and was very keen on sport, particularly enjoying athletics, javelin, discus and lacrosse.
Jenny married her husband Robert in 1965. They have two children, a boy and a girl, both of whom are married, and two grandchildren.
After marrying, Jenny and Robert lived just outside Sittingbourne for eight years before moving to Beltinge in 1975, where they still live.
Jenny was elected as a Conservative councillor for Reculver ward in 1987 and served on the council for 16 years. During that time, she was chairman of several committees, held the positions of Chief Whip and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, and was Sheriff of Canterbury in 2001/02.
She also served as the Escort to Councillor Rosemary Doyle when she was Sheriff in 2016/17.
Over the years, Jenny has sat on a number of other committees, including the NSPCA. She has also been a school governor and is a member of the Inner Wheel Club of Canterbury.
Her interests and hobbies include gardening and following many different sports including golf, cricket and rugby. She is also an active bridge player.
Jenny enjoys travelling, having been very lucky to have visited about 50 countries around the world, as well as many parts of the UK as a keen caravanner.
