The Sheriff of Canterbury

The Sheriff of Canterbury Councillor Colin Spooner

Councillor Colin Spooner has lived and worked in Seasalter for the last 10 years. He is married to Julie and has three grown up daughters and four grandchildren.

Colin was born in Barking, Essex, and was educated at a local secondary modern school, leaving at the age of 15 with very few qualifications.

He joined the City of London police force in 1974 and later transferred to the Metropolitan Police, where he served for many years in various roles before going on to be a dog handler in southeast London.

After leaving the police, Colin went on to run his own security company for 10 years and has just retired from running his own boarding kennels in Seasalter.

He was elected as a councillor in Seasalter ward on 7 May 2015 and currently serves on five council committees.

In his spare time, Colin can be found exercising his pet working cocker spaniel Mocha. He is also a Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Examiner and works with dog training clubs in the east Kent area.

He has recently taken up golf again after a 10 year break and has joined a local club.
