Confirm your details on the electoral register

Make sure your details on the electoral register are correct and find out how to change them if they're not.

Every year we check who is eligible to vote in each household. This is to make sure that the electoral register is correct and complete. We then publish a revised electoral register on 1 December. This is known as the annual canvass.

You'll get either an email or a letter and form from us in the next two months. Please read it carefully to see whether you need to respond.

If you add a new person to your household they'll need to register to vote. If they don't register online they'll be sent a paper form.

Route one properties - you'll get an email or a letter and form from us

This means that everyone that can vote in your household has been matched to local and national records, and you only need to respond if the information on the form is not correct.

If we hold an email address for you, you'll be sent an email from us in September. It will show as coming from electoral.services.canterbury.city.council@notifications.service.gov.uk. When you reply it will show as going to electoral.services@canterbury.gov.uk.

You need to make sure the details we hold for you are correct. If there are changes then you need to respond to us. One of the options is online at www.householdresponse.com/canterbury.

If you don't have an email address or reply to the email we send to you, you'll be sent a letter and paper form at the end of September.

Route two properties - you'll get a letter and paper form from us

This means that we couldn't match everyone that can vote in your household to local and national records.

You'll be sent a letter and form from us in September. You need to reply to it even if there are no changes to your details. The letter will tell you how you can do that. You can also respond online at www.householdresponse.com/canterbury.

If you don't reply when you need to

If you don't reply when you need to, we'll contact you again by either email, a letter, or a phone call. If we email you, it will show as coming from electoral.services.canterbury.city.council@notifications.service.gov.uk.

If you still don't reply you may get a visit at your home. Replying as soon as possible helps save time and money.

If you are voting in person at a polling station, you need to bring an acceptable form of photo ID with you.  If you don't have any ID you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

If you have any questions you can contact our elections team at electoral.services@canterbury.gov.uk or on 01227 862 007.
