Canterbury district grants 2024 to 2025
Skills and employability
Skills and employability grants are aimed at local not-for-profit organisations that are working to improve on health, wellbeing and employability for residents in the district.
We will award funding to organisations that can prove they are:
- Improving employability, such as familiarising people with employers expectations
- Supporting economically inactive or unemployed people in job searching and into self-employment
- Increasing work experience opportunities for economically inactive or unemployed people
- Developing and managing volunteering

Pride in Place
The Pride in Place grants scheme is aimed at not-for-profit organisations who are working on projects that improve quality of life opportunities in the district.
Funding will be prioritised for organisations that can prove they are increasing:
- Visitor and user numbers for local venues, facilities and amenities
- Participation in arts, heritage and cultural activities
- Support for local sports facilities, tournaments, teams and leagues
- Support to encourage volunteering

Strategic grants round 2
The strategic grants fund is aimed at organisations that are already achieving good outcomes for the local community and want to take their work to the next level.
The grants programme is one of the ways we aim to work in collaboration with the voluntary and community sector to meet its objectives.
Applications can be applied for core funding (up to 20%) and project funding and will be prioritised for organisations that are helping tackle:
- Cost of living - Maximising incomes through providing advice and support on claiming benefits and improving employment skills
- Early intervention for men’s mental health
- Promoting active lives
- Young people - activities to tackle boredom and antisocial behaviour, creating a greater sense of belonging and ownership

Innovation grants 2023 to 2024
Grants will be awarded for new, innovative organisational development work, or for a new innovative project in its own right that will deliver against our Corporate Plan key priorities.
The place shaping priorities the development work must support are:
- To demonstrate potential to contribute to a green and sustainable district through improvements in energy, emissions, transportation, biodiversity and so on. You can see our Climate Change action plan for more information
- To enhance organisational resilience through the connection of local community networks and volunteer initiatives
- To bring people together, encouraging interactions and cultivating a shared identity and connection among workers, residents and visitors in open public spaces

Event concessions
Events concessions are aimed at not-for-profit organisations to support them in running events throughout the year. Applications can include support to cover costs such as:
- administration fees
- road closures in Canterbury district
- site fees
- cleaning and toilet costs (provided by Canterbury City Council contractors)
