Problems with bin collection dates and online maps
You might have a problem checking your bin collection dates and using online maps at the moment. Please try again later if you do. We're working to fix this and are sorry for any inconvenience.
Find out what happens to your waste once we collect it.
When we collect your waste - or you take it to a recycling centre - how it is recycled depends on what it is.
Kent County Council has information and data on how different waste is processed after collection, including non-recyclable materials.
When we collect your food waste, it's taken to a local digestion facility in Kent where it is turned into biogas (a natural source of energy) and fertiliser used in farming.
The biogas from your food waste is also fed to the national grid and powers the plant itself, as an alternative to using fossil fuels.
Recycling food waste separately from your general waste is also more cost-effective, because less energy is used to process it through incineration.
