Home adaptations - like level access shower rooms, ramps, or chairlifts - are designed to help you stay independent.
Our home adaptations service is reliable and competitively priced.
We aim to support you wherever we can, but adaptations are not always possible. For example, some of our properties cannot be adapted to meet accessibility standards such as level access. In other cases, proposed adaptations might be too expensive and would not be the best use of our housing stock.
Where adaptations can't be made, our Adaptations team will work closely with the Housing Needs and Resources team to help you move to a more suitable home. We will only move you to a home that is fully adaptable or already meets your needs, we won't move you somewhere that can only be partially adapted.
We also work with Kent County Council occupational therapists to quickly rule out unsuitable properties.
Minor adaptations
You might be able to ask for minor adaptations directly through occupational therapists at a hospital or Kent Association for the Blind.
Get a quote for an adaptation
We currently have a long waiting list for our adaptations.
You'll need to get a full quote for what you need but estimated prices are:
- level access shower rooms - £6,000 to £8,000
- access ramps (approximately 3 metres in length) - £2,500 to £3,000
- straight track stairlifts - £2,000
- curved track stairlifts - £5,000
If you ask for a quote one of our staff members will arrange a visit to see what work is needed.
Help towards the cost of adaptations
You might be able to get a grant for the changes you need for your home.
You need to contact Kent County Council (KCC) for a needs assessment.
If KCC decides that you do need an adaptation they will refer you to us and let us know what you need.
A housing officer from our team will visit you to check you are eligible for a grant, make sure your home is suitable, and let you know what happens next.
