How we'll use your data for developing our town centre strategies.

Service description

Developing council strategies for Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay city and town centres that will be designed to boost investment, growth and regeneration over the longer term.

Processing activity

The purposes for which your data will be used:

  • To gather views to help our consultants develop the strategies.
  • To identify actions that meet a wide range of community and stakeholder needs.
  • To test key findings and understand which types of interventions are most important to local residents.
  • To share feedback outputs with any participants who explicitly give their permission for us to do so.

Information requirements

This information may include:

Names, addresses, email, telephone number, organisation name, age group, gender, ethnic group, caring responsibilities, illnesses and health conditions.

Lawful bases

Public Task – processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the council.

The task is our duty to consult on and develop the Town Centre Strategy, in line with relevant planning and local government legislation.

If you choose to provide special category data such as details of illnesses or health conditions we may process it in accordance with the following lawful basis: 

Substantial Public Interest, together with the supporting provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018 Schedule 1, Part 2, Paragraph 8.

Data processors

Your data will be controlled by Canterbury City Council.

We will only share your information with our designated consultants We Made That, so that your views and feedback can be processed and analysed to help them develop the strategies.

We Made That is also subject to its own privacy notice which explains how it manages the data passed to it for processing.

You have the following rights:

  • The right to access, correct, restrict (in certain situations) or object (in certain situations) to our processing of your data.
  • You have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Data sharing

Personal data will not be passed onto any third party or shared or used in any other way outside of that which has been specified above.

Any data resulting from any part of the project will only be shared publicly in aggregate with specific data points anonymised.

Retention

We will keep your personal information for the minimum period necessary. This is expected to be the duration of the project (6 months).

The information outlined in this privacy notice will be kept for in accordance with our Retention Policy. All information will be held securely and disposed of confidentially.
