Appeal your business rates bill

Find out how to appeal your rates bill or challenge the rateable value of your business.

If you think you shouldn't be paying business rates, we have wrongly worked out your bill or you're not getting the rate relief you should be, you can appeal it. You'll need to tell us:

  • your name and address
  • the address of the property registered for business rates
  • your business rates account number
  • the reason for your appeal

You must carry on paying your business rates while the appeal is outstanding.

Appeal a completion notice

If your business property is newly built or almost complete you'll be given a completion notice letting you know the date you need to start paying rates.

If you think the building won't be complete by this date, you can appeal to the Valuation Tribunal Service. You'll need to do this within four weeks of the notice being given.
