Byelaws are local laws established to deal with local issues. Byelaws enable the council to address any particular needs that are not already regulated or dealt with by existing statutes.
Failure to comply with a byelaw is a criminal offence.
There are many byelaws in existence, some of which have implications for the whole of the district, whereas some are specific to certain towns, villages or designated areas.
