Device compliance: why it matters and how to fix it

If your work device is marked as non-compliant, you may not be able to access some council systems, apps or data until the issue is resolved.

Why your device needs to be compliant

Device compliance helps protect council systems and data. An non-compliant device is potentially a security risk. To be compliant, devices must:

  • Have checked in with Microsoft recently
  • Have important security updates installed
  • Have up-to-date antivirus protection

A device may become non-compliant if it has not been used for a while or is missing important security updates.

How to fix a device that is non-compliant

  1. Open Windows search and type 'Updates'.
  2. Open 'Check for updates' and download and install any available updates.
  3. If any updates show as 'Pending restart' make sure you restart your device.

4. After you've installed all updates and your device has restarted, repeat steps 1-3 until there are no more updates waiting.

5. Open Windows search again and type 'Company Portal'.

7. Once it has synced, restart your device again.

It can take up to an hour for your device to be marked as compliant again.

How to stop your device becoming non-compliant

  1. Fully shut down your device at the end of each day and install updates when they're available.
  2. If you have been off a week or more, allow time for installing updates and syncing Company Portal again. If it's possible, you can log in the day before you return to do this which will save time.
