Coastal code

Our coastal code outlines ways we can protect the coast and look after surrounding wildlife.

Help us keep our coast safe, clean and enjoyable for everyone by treating the environment, wildlife and other people with respect and following some simple guidelines.

Protect wildlife and nature

Our coast is home to important wildlife and fragile habitats.

  • Leave plants and wildlife as you find them
  • Keep a safe distance from birds, especially during nesting and winter months

Take your rubbish home

Keep our coast clean for everyone.

  • Use the bins provided
  • Take your litter home if the bins are full

BBQ responsibly

  • Don’t light open fires
  • Don’t use disposable BBQs
  • Keep BBQs well away from wooden structures such as beach huts or groynes

Use the coast safely

  • Check tides, weather and local hazards
  • Don’t jump into the sea from high structures, walls or jetties
  • Use seasonal lifeguarded areas for safer swimming
