Smoke control areas

You can find out if you're in a smoke control area and which appliances are exempt.

Many parts of the UK are smoke control areas. This means you can't emit smoke from a chimney unless you're burning an authorised fuel or using an exempt appliance, such as a boiler or stove.

You may be fined up to £1,000 if you break the rules.
