Report a problem with a private rented home or landlord

Use our online form to report a problem with your private rented home.

If you have a problem with a rented property that you live in, you must contact your landlord or managing agent in writing to try and resolve it first.

If you've given them a reasonable amount of time and they have not resolved it, you can report them to us.

The problems you can report include:

  • Repairs or safety
  • Tenancy disputes, for example, they are not following regulations
  • Threats or behaviour relating to tenant harassment or illegal eviction
  • A landlord or managing agent regulation offence, for example, with a deposit protection scheme
  • An offence or breach under the Renters' Rights Act 2025
  • Anything else related to your home or tenancy
  • An issue with a licensed HMO or a suspected unlicensed HMO
  • A suspected empty property
  • An issue about the licensing of a caravan site

We cannot accept anonymous reports, and we might ask you to verify the information you give us before we can investigate. This is because we might take enforcement action.
