What are you doing about air quality in the district?

We regularly review and assess air quality and levels of nitrogen dioxide in the district and report the results to central government. We’ve also produced an air quality action plan.

What is a smoke control area?

You can’t emit smoke from a chimney in a smoke control area, unless you’re burning an authorised fuel or using an exempt appliance. Many parts of the UK are smoke control areas.

What can I burn in a smoke control area?

You can burn ‘smokeless’ fuels plus any fuel on GOV.UK’s authorised list. Outdoor barbecues, chimineas, fireplaces or pizza ovens are allowed. You can also have a bonfire as long as you follow bonfire rules.

How can I report a smoky vehicle?

If you think a lorry or bus is very smoky and could be causing pollution, you can easily report it online to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
