Nominate buildings or land as a community asset

Find out what you can nominate as a community asset and how to submit your nomination.

The community right to bid allows communities and parish councils to nominate buildings or land for listing by us as an 'asset of community value'. This can include:

  • local shops
  • pubs
  • community centres
  • libraries
  • playgrounds
  • swimming pools

If an asset is listed as being of community value and it comes up for sale, it can then be put on hold for up to six months. This is so the community can find the funding required to buy it before it goes on the open market.

To nominate an asset, download a nomination form:

and send it to right-to-bid@canterbury.gov.uk.

We'll confirm we've received your nomination and it will be assessed against government criteria by a panel of council officers. A decision will be made within eight weeks.
