Express an interest in running a local service on behalf of us

Find out how to express an interest in running a local service on behalf of us.

The community right to challenge gives local people the chance to express their interest in running local services on behalf of us. Local people can include:

  • a voluntary or community group
  • charities
  • parish councils
  • two or more employees of the relevant local authority

Your group will need to submit an expression of interest which sets out the service you would like to run, how you believe you could make it better and your ability to effectively deliver it. You may like to read My Community's helpful guide to understanding the right to challenge first.

We will consider all expressions of interest and can either accept it, reject it, or suggest changes to improve the proposal.

To submit a proposal to run a service, download an expression of interest form:

and email it to right-to-challenge@canterbury.gov.uk.

We'll let you know in writing when a decision has been made.

If your expression of interest is accepted, we'll put out a tender for that service, so that other potential providers have the opportunity to bid too.
